Watts Connectedness Scale

The Psychometric Tool for Measuring Connectedness

The Watts Connectedness Scale enables individuals to articulate and quantify their feelings of connectedness before and after psychedelic experience or any other big life experience. This tool has been validated by the team at the Imperial College Centre for Psychedelic Research and is now published for use.

Our hope is that the Watts Connectedness Scale becomes widely adopted in both psychedelic research and other therapeutic approaches. We believe that creating accessible ways to regain our lost Connectedness to Self, Others and World may be some of the most important work of our time. In order to spread Connectedness, we need to understand it and measure it, and prove that it can be greatly increased and maintained with the right tools, guidance and support.

Creating the ‘WCS’

Throughout her career as a psychedelic researcher, ACER founder Dr. Rosalind Watts noticed a consistent theme among those undergoing psychedelic therapy: a profound and sudden increase in feelings of connectedness to Self, others and world.

While conducting interviews with participants of the first psilocybin for depression study, Dr. Watts identified that enhanced connectedness  was central to the therapeutic benefits of psychedelics. This insight inspired the creation of a psychometric tool to measure these shifts: the Watts Connectedness Scale.

WCS Community

Dr Watts has started a community of researchers and academics who are using the WCS in their work. The intention of this group is to empower a connectedness community to develop and spread a greater understanding of why connectedness matters and how to improve it.

If you are currently using the WCS, or would like to find out how you can start, then we would love for you to apply to be part of our community below.
